11 Crucial Questions to Ask Before the New Season of ‘Game Of Thrones’

11 Crucial Questions to Ask Before the New Season of ‘Game Of Thrones’ July 12, 2017

The year between the sixth and seventh seasons of "Game of Thrones" has gone by so, so slowly, but new episodes are finally almost here. Still, if you haven't done a rewatch, you've probably forgotten all the important things you're dying to know. Don't worry; we'll ask and answer all of your most crucial "Game of Thrones" questions.

What's up with Gendry?

In the third season, after Melisandre rocked Gendry’s world and then had him thrown in prison, Davos freed him and put him in a boat to row for King’s Landing. Gendry admitted he’d never been in a rowboat, and didn’t know how to swim. That’s the last we ever heard of Gendry.

What's up with Gendry?

Gendry’s important because, other than him, House Baratheon is extinct. Robert, Stannis and Renly have all been killed. Even Cersei’s kids, widely thought to be Baratheons (but aren't), are all dead anyway. Gendry, though a bastard, is the only Baratheon left. If he’s even still alive.

What's up with Beric Dondarrion?

The un-un-un-un-undead leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners showed up again in the sixth season after being MIA since the third season. In his most recent appearance, he had a run-in with Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, one of the several people who killed Dondarrion.

What's up with Beric Dondarrion?

We know from the seventh season trailer that Dondarrion will appear again. When he met the Hound last season, he mentioned that he intends to deal with “cold winds” from the North, implying he has an important role yet to play. Also, is he still on Arya’s kill list?

What's up with Melisandre?

[dx_custom_adunit desktop_id="RTK_K67O" mobile_id="RTK_5yk0"]

The Red Woman has done a lot of fucked-up shit. She gave birth to Stannis’ weird shadow-demon-assassin baby to kill Renly. She had Mance Rayder gruesomely killed. And worst of all, of course, she burned little Shireen Baratheon alive in sacrifice to her dumb god.

What's up with Melisandre?

Melisandre’s luck has been running out for a while. Last season, we not only saw her true, creepy, elderly form revealed, we also saw her influence dwindle to nothing as Jon Snow cast her out of Winterfall. She headed south, but where she’ll wind up next is a mystery.

What's up with Sam Tarly?

We last left Sam in Oldtown, specifically the Citadel’s massive library, staring in awe and wonder at the wealth of knowledge before him. He has Gilly and her son with him, which is against Citadel rules, but, as Sam says, “Life is irregular.”

What's up with Sam?

[dx_custom_adunit desktop_id="RTK_K67O" mobile_id="RTK_5yk0"]

Sam’s is one of the few storylines that’s still ever-so-slightly behind the books, but not so much that it’s worth assuming what will happen to him next. We kinda wish he could just stay happy in the Citadel with Gilly and the baby forever. Not bloody likely, though.

What's up with Brienne of Tarth?

Last time we saw Brienne, she went to Riverrun, which was under siege by her secret BFF Jaime Lannister, to deliver a message from Sansa to the Blackfish. She also tries to negotiate for reinforcements for Winterfell, but that went nowhere.

What's up with Brienne of Tarth?

The Blackfish wounds up dead, but not before putting Brienne and Pod on an escape boat. She avoided a showdown of honor with Jaime, but she’s heading back to Sansa with no troops. Poor Brienne. Nothing ever goes right for that woman.

What's up with Arya Stark?

[dx_custom_adunit desktop_id="RTK_K67O" mobile_id="RTK_5yk0"]

Arya spent two seasons in Braavos learning how to be an assassin under the training of the Faceless Men. Sounds like it should’ve been awesome, but it was actually incredibly boring, and we just wanted her back in Westeros.

What's up with Arya Stark?

Yay, Arya’s back in Westeros! She finished last season by awesomely killing Walder Frey, but she’s still got a lot of other names on her "Kill Bill" list. Who’s next? Will she meet the Hound again? And where’s her still-alive dire wolf, Nymeria?

What's up with Bran Stark?

Last season, Bran screwed up big time and gave the zombies access to the Three-Eyed Raven’s lair. He and Meera got away, but left TER and Hodor to die. An undead Uncle Benjen saved Bran’s dumb ass, and now Bran has to be the new Three-Eyed Raven. Yikes.

What's up with Bran Stark?

[dx_custom_adunit desktop_id="RTK_K67O" mobile_id="RTK_5yk0"]

The only time Bran is interesting is when he uses his Professor X powers to access flashbacks to scenes that are backstory in the books. So our big question for the seventh season is: Will Bran finally watch the tourney at Harrenhal? Readers know what we mean.

What's up with Cersei and Jaime Lannister?

Last season, Cersei blew up the Sept of Baelor, destroying all her enemies in one fell swoop. Of course, her last living offspring also killed himself as a direct result, so we’ll call it a wash. Meanwhile, Jaime has pretty much had it up to here with his sister/lover.

What's up with Cersei and Jaime Lannister?

The only softness in Cersei’s heart was her love for her children, so what’s left to stop her from going completely insane now? And Jaime killed the Mad King to prevent him from doing exactly what Cersei did, so his next move is a huge question mark going into the seventh season.

What's up with Jon Snow and Sansa Stark?

[dx_custom_adunit desktop_id="RTK_K67O" mobile_id="RTK_5yk0"]

Hurray, the North is back in the hands of Starks! Jon’s the new King in the North, and he’s got Sansa, Ser Davos, Brienne and Lyanna fucking Mormont with him. Still, it’s not exactly puppy dogs and ice cream at Winterfell…

What's up with Jon Snow and Sansa Stark?

Sansa is probably feeling a little salty that she’s been passed over for leadership in favor of her bastard brother. Is Littlefinger going to create chaos by nursing her resentment? Also, it’s not as if Northern bannermen have been uniformly loyal in the past. Who can Jon really trust?

What's up with Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister?

Finally, finally, after seven seasons of buildup, Dany is finally sailing for Westeros to take back her throne. Meanwhile, Tyrion Lannister has pledged his loyalty, which seems weird until you realize he’s probably a Targaryen anyway. What, you don’t read fan theories?

What's up with Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister?

[dx_custom_adunit desktop_id="RTK_K67O" mobile_id="RTK_5yk0"]

Dany sailing for Westeros seems like a major climax, but how is her story going to bump up against the other main plots? Is she going to team up with Jon Snow, or fight him? And how is she gonna deal when the Night King makes his big move?

What's up with Ser Pounce?

Tom and Maggie are both dead and no one has told us who’s looking after the cat. Doesn’t anyone care about what’s really important here?!
