Not one to let a headline-making moment pass by undocumented, Demi Lovato shared a New Year’s kiss with backup dancer Jojo Gomez and quickly posted the lip lock to Instagram. In the minutes leading up to the kiss-heard-round-the-‘Gram, the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer was busy bringing down the house with a performance at Fontainebleau Miami’s beachfront poolscape.

“Last performance of 2017 and first kiss of 2018 🎉😻💋 📷,” wrote Lovato.

Gomez, Lovato’s backup dancer and celebrity choreographer (who has styled the moves of nearly everyone in the industry from The Backstreet Boys to Justin Bieber) also made note of the moment on social media.

“Happy New Year @ddlovato💋😘✨. First kiss of 2018! 😛,” wrote Gomez.

After the post sent shockwaves throughout the #Lovatic community, some fans were eager to speculate about Gomez and Lovato’s relationship status, citing the singer’s sexuality in support of the pairing.

“I am open to human connection, so whether that’s through a male or female, it doesn’t matter to me,” she said. “I do like athletes; there is something sexy about someone putting in all of their physical strength into their passion,” said Lovato in her YouTube documentary “Simply Complicated.”

Despite Lovato’s confession, critics quickly took to Twitter to slam the “Stone Cold” singer for her alleged queerbaiting and attention-seeking behavior.

Both Lovato and Gomez have refrained from speaking out about the smooch, keeping either their new relationship or platonic friendship (they could have just been caught up in the moment, OK?) under wraps–for now.
