Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain may have made a career on somber lyrics about pain and angst, but his daughter Frances Bean has no reason to moan. Quite simply, Frances Bean Cobain swims in cash every month, thanks to her father’s legacy and estate.
Cobain, 25, works as a model, though not because she needs to. Analysts calculate Cobain’s income at a whopping $100,000 per month. That amount also doesn’t figure in the additional income she generates as an artist or model. Earlier in 2017, designer Marc Jacobs announced Cobain as the face of his summer fashion line.
The income comes from the estate of Cobain’s father, Kurt Cobain, the frontman and songwriter behind the legendary rock band Nirvana. Cobain’s estate continues to generate constant income for Frances Bean, to the tune of more than $11 million per year.
The news comes as Frances undergoes divorce proceedings from estranged husband Isaiah Silva. The two married in 2014, and Cobain filed for divorce in early 2016. Silva has challenged Cobain’s claim to Nirvana’s publicity rights, suing for a stake of the money as part of their divorce settlement.
Frances Bean Cobain has seen her share of tumult in her life. Her parents, Kurt and rock icon Courtney Love, lost custody of Frances shortly after her birth due to heavy drug use. Cobain and Love regained custody of their daughter after a lengthy battle, though tragedy would strike again. Kurt Cobain struggled with severe heroin addiction throughout his life, eventually committing suicide in 1994. Love continued to struggle with substance abuse throughout Frances’ childhood as well.
