Move over James Charles, there’s a new “easy, breezy, beautiful” face of CoverGirl, and it’s “Insecure” star Issa Rae.
The cosmetics giant announced Rae as its newest brand ambassador. Rae will be joining the ranks of previous WOC spokespeople such as Zendaya, Queen Latifah, Janelle Monae and Sal Stowers.
Rae entered the industry with the debut of her mega-popular web series “Awkward Black Girl,” and used her on and off-screen talents of writing and portraying characters to become CoverGirl’s new spokesmodel. “My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona — whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life,” Rae said in a press release. “Becoming a CoverGirl means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways.”
Rae broke the news of the exciting new partnership on Instagram, captioning a picture of her getting glam with, “I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”
The Shorty Award-winner’s sentiment was echoed by a photo posted to CoverGirl’s official Instagram account, captioned that they “couldn’t be happier” and are honored to welcome Rae to their cosmetics family.
Congrats to the newest, #flawless CoverGirl!
