Pink is NOT here for the haters throwing shade on her soulful performance of the national anthem during the Super Bowl LII broadcast.
Before the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots battled it out for ownership of the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy, the “Beautiful Trauma” singer took center field to serve up a solid rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” while flanked by members of the U.S. military.
With such flawless execution, it’s almost impossible to believe that the singer was busy battling the flu just days before. If she hadn’t taken to Instagram to let fans know she was suffering during her practice run, (along with spitting out a lozenge right before stepping up to the mic) her less-than-stellar health would have surely gone unnoticed.
“Trying to practice the flu away,” she wrote. “I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come. And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek.”
While millions of fans flocked to social media to praise Pink’s talent and resilience following her performance, one hater tweeted their criticism of the “Raise Your Glass” hitmaker.
“If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 1000 times. Pink sucks and if you like her singing you’re dumb,” wrote Twitter user @King_Sullivan.
Ouch. Here’s to hoping Pink is resting from her weekend performance and well on her way to recovering from the flu.
