Haters think twice. Sarah Hyland isn’t shy about defending herself on Twitter.

The “Modern Family” star recently clapped back hard at a critic eager to slut-shame the actress for posting a candid personal snap on Instagram.

Two more reasons to smile again. My big🥄& furry🥄

A post shared by Sarah Hyland (@sarahhyland) on

While the pic gives off some serious “I woke up like this” vibes, Hyland wasn’t highlighting their post-coital glow, instead stating how happy she was to be surrounded by new beau Wells Adams and his dog Carl. While the duo appeared to be naked while cuddling in bed, Hyland’s “Two more reasons to smile again. My big& furry” caption and the fact that you can hardly see any exposed skin slots the post into the PG-13 category without question.

When one of Hyland’s followers took offense to the happily-in-love snap, the celeb couldn’t help but pointing out the slut-shaming double standard that permeates the entertainment industry and beyond.

“Some private things must stay private and not be shared with the whole world. KEEP YOUR SEXUAL LIFE PRIVATE, we do not necessarily need to know all the details of your personal life,” wrote Hyland’s detractor before closing out the tirade with an emphatic “SHIT!!”

Not one to keep her fans waiting, Hyland publicly tweeted her response just one minute later.

“Not putting her on blast. She just brought to my attention that that picture I posted might have been inappropriate since we’re in bed. So I just have to say I’m so sorry…FOR POSTING AN ADORABLE PICTURE BECASE CARL WAS ACTING LIKE THE NUGGETIEST SNUGGLW BUG! Couldn’t let that moment pass without getting a picture,” Hyland said in her response.

“The only things I share about my like with you all is through Instagram and Twitter,” she continued. “I do want my privacy. Especially in my relationships. I’ve made the mistake in the past on being way too open and talking way too much about them. This time is different. It’s special. And I will share what I seem ‘appropriate’ on social media because I still want you all to be updated. Because you guys are the greatest fans in the world. I even hate saying fans…because you’re people. You’re people who have had chronic illnesses, eating disorders, troubles family situations that ‘Modern Family’ helps you get through. People who share their stories with me and I love you all for that. So thank you for always been so wonderful.”

“However… this relationship’s tea will only be spilled on social media… for now. Cause never say never and I don’t want to be reminded in the future that I’m a ‘hypocrite,’” she continued. “Ok. Gotta get ready for work. I LOVE YOU ALL!”

The actress then added another quick clarification about the couple’s actual state of undress.

“ONE MORE THING! I just realized I’m being criticized for being naked… which you don’t even know if I am!” she remarked. “You can barely see any skin but it’s ok for Instagram models to roll around in the sand ACTUALLY naked? (I mean I’d post that too if I looked like that) My point is don’t be hypocrites. Either be conservative on all fronts or FREE THE NIPPLE.”

After the long Twitter rant, Hyland revealed the real reason behind her willingness to engage with her “haters” (she hates that word, btw)– she just “really LOVES a good clap back.”
