Being Superman isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Everyone always compares you to Christopher Reeve and Dean Kaine, you have to take the lead in interviews while Ben Affleck sings The Sound of Silence to himself, people complain that you’re not wearing bright red underpants, and just when you’re getting into the swing of things, Zack Snyder kills you for no reason.
It’s a hard knock life, being Henry Cavill.
Perhaps this is why the star of Man of Steel has decided to sign on for the upcoming Mission Impossible 6, and an opportunity to participate in a franchise which, let’s face it, doesn’t get quite the same level of hatred from critics and fans alike.
Say what you like about Batman v Superman, it’s hard to deny that when someone yells “Is it a bird, is it a plane?” in Hollywood these days, the answer is generally, “No, it’s Tom Cruise, filming a ridiculous stunt for a Mission Impossible movie!”
According to Variety, Cavill will be playing “some sort of a right hand to the head of Cruise’s unit”, meaning that he’ll be deep within the superspy world.
Considering Cavill’s performance in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. this shouldn’t feel like unfamiliar territory for the British star – all that’s in question is whether Cavill will get to use his real accent, and whether he’ll be foolhardy enough to match Cruise for ridiculous literal death-defying stunts.
For your own sake, Henry, maybe leave the biggest stunts to the adrenaline junkie that is Tom Cruise.
After all, you’re not actually Superman.
