Calm Down, Taylor Swift Fans – Kanye West Insists She Gave Her Blessing on the Song

Kanye West’s latest opus, The Life of Pablo, premiered last night at his Madison Square Garden fashion show for Yeezy Season 3. Though the album is still unable to be streamed or purchased by the general public for the next few hours/days/weeks—who knows, really—the rapper has stirred up some controversy with one line from the new album.

On “Famous,” the rapper sings “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.” This, of course, references Kanye's infamous MTV VMA moment when he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech to champion Beyoncé.

From the moment that line played over the MSG speakers, tweets about it were flying and Swift fans and Kanye haters alike were huffing and puffing about the slight.

Gigi Hadid, who was at the Yeezy event, tweeted, “My attendance somewhere does not mean I agree with everything being said in the music playing there. My friends know of my loyalty.”

Swift’s own brother, Austin, took to Instagram with a video of him throwing out a pair Moonrock Yeezy Boost 350s in an act of “spring cleaning.”

Getting a head start on some spring cleaning. Here we go again.

The thing is, despite all this outrage on Taylor’s behalf, it turns out the singer not only knew about the line already and gave her blessing on it, but she even came up with the idea.

In a series of tweets this morning, West explained his conversations with Swift that lead to the creation of that line.

However, Taylor's rep told the press, "Kanye did not call for approval but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, 'I made that bitch famous.'"

Guess we’ll all have to set our pitchforks aside for the time being and just listen to an amazing new album instead (once a stream is actually available).
