Donald Glover is having a pretty good time lately.

With the success of Altanta, plus upcoming appearances in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Han Solo, this former member of the Community team is enjoying a lot of critical and fan praise, and is set to work on even more exciting projects in the future.

Take, for example, the new announcement that Glover will be overseeing the creation of a cartoon series based on the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool.

That ought to be fun.

This won’t be a Saturday morning kids cartoon. Instead, we’re going to get something for fans of Rick and Morty or Bojack Horseman – an animated show that’s filled with grown up concepts and language, making perfect use of the goodwill that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool movie has built up.

The show is being developed in a joint deal between Marvel Television and Fox, and will debut on FX. This matches the pattern that saw the hugely popular Legion take to the air.

According to the head of Marvel Television, Jeff Loeb, the studio is hoping for this new Deadpool cartoon to be every bit as successful as Legion:

“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald. and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”

So for anyone who loves the work of Donald Glover, or anyone who wishes that Marvel made a cartoon series with more sex and swearing in, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on this project as it develops.
