Should “Sabrina” Cross Over With “Riverdale”?

Bad news, “Riverdale” fans: apparently Sabrina the Teenage Witch won’t be showing up on the show any time in the near future.

Speaking about the upcoming “Sabrina” show on Netflix, The CW’s Mark Pedowitz insists that the series won’t be crossing over with “Riverdale”, bringing magic and horror into the stylish, sexy world of Archie and friends.

According to Chris Hayner, co-host of “Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast”:

“Based on what [Pedowitz] said, they are completely focused on getting Sabrina off the ground on Netflix and not thinking about crossovers at all, but they hope there might be a possibility sometime in the future. But they want to establish Sabrina as its own entity on Netflix before they even start thinking about it.”

Well, this certainly feels like a wasted opportunity.

After all, what better way to generate interest in the new Netflix show than having Sabrina appear in Riverdale, showing off a little of her magic?

It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for a show that seems to revel in flying in the face of logic at all times! Surely, Sabrina wouldn’t break the canon too much, right?

It’s possible that this decision has been made because the Higher Ups at The CW don’t have much faith in “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” just yet. If the show tanks, then “Riverdale” will be forever stuck with the association.

If this new “Sabrina” show ends up proving unpopular, then “Riverdale” can still add in a different version of Sabrina, Harvey, and Salem at a later date. Essentially, “Sabrina” has to prove worthwhile before the show’s version of the characters will be allowed to enter main “Riverdale” canon.

This is a shame – with a show as weird as “Riverdale”, it’d be fun to see the wackier side of the Archie comics shine through a little more.

Archie once met The Predator for a limited run of comics. “Afterlife with Archie” reimagines the inhabitants of Riverdale as zombies.

Archie comics owns the rights to a bunch of “Sonic the Hedgehog” characters.

Sabrina could open the floodgates for a huge series of weird and wonderful story ideas to enter “Riverdale”. There’s a lot of potential here for truly bizarre storytelling, and fans would love to see the show get really nuts.
