Every family has special recipes that are passed down from generation to generation. It’s usually along the lines of a savory casserole, or an awesome pie crust that won’t crumble with each bite. Or, if you’re mommy blogger, Katie Reed, then you apparently have the 7UP salad as a traditional side dish.
The word salad being used to describe a dish filled with soda (at least it’s 7UP and not Coke) is hilarious. But seriously, how can a 7UP salad actually taste good!? It’s not too difficult to make, and all of the ingredients seem pretty standard (aside from the mayonnaise WTF).
What you will need to make the most unique side dish at the party:
7 ounces 7UP Soda
8 ounces mini marshmallows
1 small box of lime Jell-O
6 ounces cream cheese (softened)
1 jar maraschino cherries
1 cup crushed pineapple
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tub of Cool Whip (thawed)
It seems to be a sweeter food, so it could be served as a dessert as well. Though it’s still hard to get over enjoying a dessert that requires a large goop of mayonnaise. Reed highly suggests letting the 7UP concoction set overnight in a festive mold, because “Given the green color and the pretty cherries that show through, the wreath is beautiful.”
Reed stands by her recipe, and says that everyone has always loved her unique dish. There are minimal variations you can use to make it more your own, but she personally never strays from what was passed down to her.
