Adjust times for amounts of vegetables being cooked – the chart times are for roughly one pound of vegetables.

Bring water to a boil before adding vegetables.

Steaming time does not begin until the water boils and steam visibly rises.

If all else fails, vegetables are done when they are still slightly crisp and tender (not mushy).
