The Midnight Moonshine Burger is available today, March 23, and has 100 percent black Angus beef with a moonshine-flavored glaze, pepper jack cheese, and applewood smoked bacon. Oh—and don’t forget the garlic and pepper fried onions. The mouthwatering burger is said to have all the taste of moonshine but with no trace of liquor. So yes, it is considered non-alcoholic.
Carl's Jr. partnered with Hall of Fame NASCAR driver Junior Johnson, who is also a part owner of Piedmont Distillers (which makes Midnight Moon moonshine), to come up with the perfect moonshine flavor for their latest endeavor. “It knocked everybody’s socks off when we tasted it,” Carls Jr. CEO Andy Puzder told CNBC.
The non-alcoholic burger will be available at over 3,300 Carl's Jr. and Hardees locations nationwide, and may become a permanent menu item if it fares well. “You have to earn your way onto the menu,” Puzder added.
Just last week, the outspoken CEO came under fire for not supporting raising the minimum wage while simultaneously threatening to replace all of his restaurant employees with robots. This week, it appears Puzder is trying to appease his critics with the new Midnight Moonshine Burger, which will cost you $4.39 for a single, $5.59 for a double, and $5.59 for a one-third pound version.
