A bar themed around the sad-sack Seinfeld character George Costanza is now open in Melbourne, Australia.
Citizens of drinking age in Melbourne’s Fitzroy area can stop at the new watering hole, dubbed “George’s,” after finishing their shopping (at the Jerk Store, of course).
Why would a proprietor construct an entire bar around a sitcom character? The answer won’t at all shock you.
“We really like Seinfeld,” said co-owner and operator Dave Barrett. "We came up with the name George's and worked backwards, concept themeing [sic] it. George Costanza suits a bar in a lot of ways. The humour around George works."
The bar has Seinfeld posters up, along with some cast-autographed photos, as well as two George quotes on the front doors. Hopefully, the theme extends to flannel-pattern wallpaper and more aesthetic choices so the place doesn’t just look like a high school super fan’s bedroom.
The joint’s food menu features dishes with names like “The Art Vandelay” and “The Mom and Pop.” The cocktail list, of course, has other quote-based offerings like “The Hand Model,” “Draped in Velvet,” and “Marisa Tomei.” No wine is for sale, but Pepsi is available.
The virality of the bar has even prompted IRL George, Jason Alexander, to comment in a tweet.
That's right – I may not have an Emmy, but I got me a bar in Melbourne, Australia. G'day, mates.

Barrett acknowledges the inherent risk of the business venture, saying that “…cheesy bars in Melbourne aren't really a thing.” We say keep going until NBC sends a cease-and-desist.
