Fog Cutter Tiki Cocktail Recipe

You’re in the mood to Tiki, but you don’t want an overly sweet drink. And maybe you’re not quite sold on the idea of rum. Well, the Fog Cutter features light rum along with brandy and gin — a departure from the usual Tiki rum medley. Obviously this guy packs quite a punch. Trader Vic himself once said of it, “Fog Cutter, hell.  After two of these, you won’t even see the stuff.”

Fog Cutter

2 oz Light Rum

1 oz Brandy or Cognac

.5 oz Gin

2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

1 oz Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

.5 oz Orgeat Syrup

Cream or Amontillado Sherry Float

Orange Wheel and Maraschino Cherry for Garnish

Combine all ingredients and shake with ice. Strain into tall glass (Tiki or Collins Glass) over ice. Float sherry on top with a bar spoon. Garnish with Orange Wheel and Luxardo Maraschino Cherry. Add a straw.

TIP: Whenever you serve a drink with a float, always drink with a straw. If you just sip from the glass, the first drink will be overpowered by the float. When you use a straw, the float will make its way down to the bottom of the glass as you continue to drink, boosting the flavor of the last few sips.
