Today is National Hot Mulled Cider Day. Good mulled cider starts with, well, good cider.
Mulled Cider Recipe
- 6 cups unfiltered apple cider
- 4 whole cinnamon sticks
- 3 whole cloves
- 2 whole star anise
- 8 whole allspice berries
- Peel from 1 lemon
- Peel from 1 orange
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- Of course, there’s always the option to add 1/2 cup dark rum to the pot.
Take a couple strips of the orange peel and press the cloves into it. Place cinnamon sticks, ground cloves, star anise, allspice berries, lemon peel and cloved orange peel in a medium saucepan. Pour in apple cider and brown sugar; bring to a slight boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat; serve in mugs.
