We know it’s Thanksgiving and you’re busy with a lot of different foody thoughts right this second, but this story is just too fantastic to be ignored.
A new scientific paper claims that eating ice cream first thing in the morning helps your brain to function more effectively throughout the day.
Scientists at Kyorin University in Tokyo, Japan, conducted an experiment in which they measured the brainwaves of participants following a bowl of delicious ice cream when eaten for breakfast.
The study found that those who consumed a tasty frozen dairy treat first thing in the morning had more mental alertness throughout the day than a control group. The scientists even repeated the experiment with cold water to test whether it was simply the temperature of the food, but they found that ice cream is simply better at waking people up.
Of course, many other scientists are urging people not to jump to conclusions. It’s been claimed that this boost in mental powers could be due to the novelty of eating such a tasty food immediately after waking up, or that the sugar in the ice cream is responsible for waking up the brain.
Whatever the reason, though, it’s hard to argue with the science: ice cream for breakfast makes you smarter throughout the entire day.
So while having ice cream every morning is probably not the best thing for your waistline, it’s worth bearing this in mind the next time you need to take a test or give a presentation – on days like those, a good bowl of ice cream for breakfast is probably a great idea for several reasons!
