Jack Kerouac: Margarita Cocktail Recipe

Jack Kerouac was a notorious drinker, and also happened to have quite the fondness for Mexican culture (so much, in fact, that his one time wife was from Mexico), making his cocktail of choice a Margarita. A story from New York City’s White Horse Tavern claims that in the bathroom there once hung a message above the urinals that read, “Kerouac, go home” as an attempt to encourage him to give the tequila-based concoction a break and head back to his NYC apartment for some much needed rest. Needless to say, Kerouac overdid it and died from stomach complications due to drinking. But that terrible fact shouldn’t sway you from enjoying a fresh made Margarita. In moderation, of course.

Margarita

2 oz Reposado or Silver Tequila

1 oz Agave Nectar

1 oz Lime Juice

Lime wheel for garnish

That’s it. Nothing else. Ever. Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into rocks glass. Garnish with a fresh cut lime wheel.
