As with pretty much anything, combining toast with the wondrous mysteries of the sea makes everything better.
Instagram user Adeline Waugh has created mermaid toast, a combination of blue green algae coloring and almond milk cream cheese which creates, let’s face it, one of the coolest toast toppings of all time.
The big challenge with this topping is that, with such a beautiful spread, it’s incredibly difficult to justify actually eating the toast. Surely it’s easier to just put another piece of bread in the toaster than bring yourself to ruin such a work of art.
Sadly, there is another downside to the sudden fame that mermaid toast has brought to Adeline Waugh. In a follow-up post on Instagram, Waugh explains that she’s received a lot of hatemail from people who, inexplicably, feel that her creation is a waste of time.
According to Waugh:
“There are also so many people and articles hating on it; saying it's "silly" and asking, "why?" Or "who has time for that?!" Let me just put this out there: I am just having fun! I am a food stylist and I like to create beautiful things using food- I've never claimed to be starting a trend or a putting out a new recipe that is super practical- it's 100% impractical, I just like to play around in the kitchen and attempt to create something aesthetically pleasing and unique from time to time.”
Clearly these haters are joyless and petty, Adeline! We’re completely on your side – this piece of food art is enough to brighten the day of any true food lover, and nobody should ever be made to feel bad for creating something so beautiful.
So keep up the good work! We’re all eager to see what wondrous culinary creation you come up with next!
