Pineapple on pizza has been a controversial subject as of late.
Many fans of delicious, cheesy pies believe that tainting their favorite food by placing pineapple on the top is tantamount to pizza treason, while apologists argue that no, actually, pineapple and ham go together great, you just have to get used to it.
Now, a new trend has been sweeping the internet that find a good middle ground to the debate. If the issue is that pineapple shouldn’t be placed on top of a cheesy baked food, the solution is to remove the pizza entirely, and just wrap delicious fruit in a lattice of equally delicious bacon.
It’s hard to argue with that logic!
The “swineapple” is a barbecue trend that started back in 2015, but which has been finding new life this summer as food enthusiasts cook up a storm. The treats are made by taking a (peeled, definitely peeled!) pineapple and wrapping it in a bacon lattice before throwing it onto a barbecue.
The best part? You can also (and probably should) hollow out the swineapple, and fill it with some other form of delicious meat as well! The most common option is more delicious pig meat, in the form of full chunks of pork or pulled pork, depending on your preference.
This isn’t exactly vegetarian-friendly, but it is gluten-free, so that counts for something, right?
If you can live with the shame of consuming copious amounts of pig-flesh, and the guilt of eating a pineapple with ham, then the next time someone suggests you grab a Hawaiian pizza, why not suggest this beautiful alternative?
After all, pineapple and pig are only natural enemies when forced to fight upon the battlefield of a cheesy pizza. On the barbecue, they’re best friends!
