This just in: North Korea claims it has invented an alcohol that is hangover free and makes you look “suave” at the same time!
According to North Korean news outlet The Pyongyang Times (a state-run newspaper, so, you know, take all of this with a huge grain of salt),Taedonggang Foodstuff Factory has finally succeeded in creating a special form of bottled liquor that, when imbibed, “causes no hangover” and eliminates those throbbing morning-after headaches.
Enter: Koryo Liquor.
Scientists in North Korea say the magical ingredient in Koryo, which contains anywhere from 30-40% alcohol by volume, is “boiled and scorched glutinous rice instead of sugar.” The benefits of scorched rice? It contains “essential amino acids, inorganic substances and vitamins."
Koryo Liquor also includes insam, a form of ginseng that has been aged for six years and is believed to have high medicinal effects.
So… where does the “suave” part come in?! It is said that Koryo Liquor exudes so much natural flavor that simply being in its presence means you’ll be partying in style.
In all, bold claims of hangover-free booze are highly questionable, as experts say it is nearly impossible to prevent a hangover if enough alcohol is consumed. And don’t plan on partying North Korea style any time soon, as Koryo Liquor is only available IN North Korea and reserved for the country’s elite. Typical.
