Taco Bell has been teasing us with fried chicken taco shells for quite some time and now it appears the Mexican chain is finally making good on its promise—the new meal will debut next year for all of our deep-fried enjoyment!
While a nationwide release is slated for 2017, back in September the taco giant began testing Naked Chicken Chalupas and Naked Crispy Chicken Tacos in Bakersfield, California. The Chalupa version combined a taco shell made entirely out of fried chicken with lettuce, tomato, cheese and avocado ranch sauce and fans naturally went wild.

“The chicken shell had a substantial crunch as well as a solid kick of spicy heat; much more so than any other current Taco Bell meat option,” reported Brand Eating. Since the taco shell is already loaded with deep-fried poultry, no additional meat will be included in the menu item, because that would be weird.
The fast food chain has yet to designate a specific month for the release of the Naked Chicken Chalupa (the taco version unfortunately didn’t get the green light), however it will be priced around $2.49, depending on the location. “We’re just planning what’s the right timing,” said a spokesperson for Taco Bell, Kat Garcia. “We want to make sure people took it seriously.”
Other recent menu items from Taco Bell include a Triple Double Crunchwrap (a.k.a. a Crunchwrap with three layers and double the meat) and an all-new Cheetos Burrito launching mid-August. Stoners everywhere rejoice.
