Today is National Tequila Day

It’s July 24th, National Tequila Day. The history behind this day is long and detailed. Oh no, wait. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason why today was deemed National Tequila Day, but The Savory is not going to argue. We love our agave spirit and in honor of the holiday, here are 5 amazing tequila recipes for you to celebrate this momentus day.

 

El Diablo

1 1/2 oz. Reposado Tequila

1/2 oz. Crème de Cassis

1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

2–3 oz. Ginger Beer

 

Glass: Highball

Garnish: Lime Wedge and Fresh Blackberry

Combine all ingredients, except ginger beer, and shake. Fine-strain into an ice-filled Collins glass, top with ginger beer and garnish.

 

Rosita Cocktail

1 1/2 oz. Reposado Tequila

1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth

1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth

1/2 oz. Campari

1 dash Angostura bitters

 

Glass: Old Fashioned

Garnish: Lemon Twist

Stir ingredients in shaker with ice cubes, strain into a glass filled with cracked ice and garnish.

 

Tabard Cocktail

1 1/2 oz. Reposado Tequila

1/2 oz. Amontillado sherry

1/2 oz. Drambuie

Dash of orange bitters

Ice cubes

 

Glass: Cocktail

Garnish: Orange Peel, Fresh Thyme Sprig

Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass, then strain into a cocktail glass. Twist orange peel over the drink to release its oils, float it on top, then top with a sprig of fresh thyme. Drink by Cheryl Tseng of the Tabard Inn in Washington D.C.

Paloma

2 oz. Reposado or Blanco Tequila

Juice from 1/2 a lime

Pinch of salt

Grapefruit soda (Jarritos or Pelligrino Pompelo works well)

 

Glass: Highball

Garnish: Lime Wheel

Pour tequila into glass and squeeze in lime juice. Add ice and salt, fill with grapefruit soda, stir and garnish.

 

The Original Tequila Sunrise

1 ½ oz Blanco Tequila

Juice of ½ Lime

Soda Water

¾ oz Creme de Cassis

 

Glass: Collins

Garnish: Lime Wheel and Maraschino Cherry

Pour Tequila and Lime Juice into Collins Glass. Fill glass with ice. Fill with Club Soda. Gently pour in Creme de Cassis, it will sink to the bottom. Garnish with Lime Wheel and Cherry.
