Urfa Belieber Brownies: An Urfa Biber Recipe

This recipe is adapted from Baker’s One Bowl Brownie recipe and incorporates a sultry Turkish chili pepper known as urfa biber. 

Urfa Belieber Brownies

  • 4 squares Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate
  • 3/4 cups (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon good vanilla (if you can, use one real vanilla bean – the addition of the bean with the urfa biber will strengthen the batter’s complexity)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 Tablespoon urfa biber
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)

Heat oven to 350 F (325 F for glass baking dish). Line 13X9-inch baking pan with foil extending over edges to form handles. Grease foil.

Microwave chocolate and butter in large microwavable bowl until butter is melted, about 2 minutes on high heat. Stir until chocolate is completely melted.

Stir sugar and urfa biber into chocolate mixture until well-blended. Mix in eggs and vanilla until well-blended. Stir in flour and nuts. Spread in prepared pan.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out with fudgy crumbs. Cool in pan. Lift out of pan and place onto cutting board. Cut into squares.
