Stacey Dash Drops Confusing Joke at Oscars 2016

In one of the most awkward moments of the 88th Annual Academy Awards, Stacey Dash made a special, and unexpected appearance during the award show. The #OscarsSoWhite controversy has been a heavy theme throughout the ceremony tonight, and host, Chris Rock, has been referencing the issue every chance he gets. Although the Clueless actress made headlines for opposing the #OscarsSoWhite conversation, it was shocking that the Oscars host, who has highlighted Hollywood's race problem, would bring her out. Everyone was confused.

While many of Chris Rock’s jokes about Hollywood’s race problem have been met with laughter, there was one joke that fell flat. When the host brought out Stacey Dash, things became a bit awkward and the audience was confused as to why she was there. Chris jokingly introduced her as the new director of the minority outreach program, and she couldn’t help but laugh when she said, “I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month.” There was literally zero applause, and the stunt was a complete fail.

Stacey recently made headlines earlier this year for stating that there shouldn’t be an #OscarsSoWhite controversy. When the people started speaking out about Hollywood's race problem, Stacey felt there was no race problem and felt that the industry should abolish the BET Awards, which is the only ceremony that honors people of color. As the actress walked off the Oscars stage, her joke and sudden appearance became more awkward when the cameras panned to the audience. The Weeknd, who was there to perform his nominated song “Earned It,” wasn’t impressed with her stunt. He looked completely shocked to see her there.
