How do you want people to remember you when you die? It’s a question many of us are forced to ask ourselves, and the answer all begins with your funeral. Do you want it to be a somber occasion, with lots of tears? Or would you rather have it be a celebration of life and love? Well, it would appear that one way of celebrating your life is no longer cool in the far East. China is looking to put an end to funeral strippers, and they are taking legal steps to make that a reality.
China’s Ministry of Culture is looking to crack down on “obscene, pornographic, and vulgar performances” at weddings, funerals, or any other public gatherings. And this isn’t a new legal fight, either. It’s been going on for over 10 years! As the Ministry of Culture has been lobbying against the displays since 2006.
Four provinces across the country are seen as the main offenders of these obscene performances. The Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Hebei provinces are facing the largest crackdowns since they just can’t seem to get enough of these strippers.
Media professor, Kuang Haiyan said these types of celebrations are nothing new, and they in fact have deep historical significance to them. “According to the interpretation of cultural anthropology, the fete is originated from the worship of reproduction. Therefore the erotic performance at the funeral is just a cultural atavism.”
I don’t know about you all, but I think I just got an idea as to what I’ll be doing at my funeral. I want everyone to enjoy my departure from this mortal coil, and what better way to do that than to have some sexy strippers dancing around?
