Are you worried that possibly you’re the dumbest person alive? Behold: This man wants to launch himself into space with a rocket that flat-earthers made. “Mad” Mike Hughes has been planning on taking a trip to outer space in order to prove his theory (that the Earth is flat) correct. But he has recently run into a few snafus.

First of all, you can’t just launch into space a rocket you made for yourself. Because there are permits, licenses, etc. that you need. Apparently Hughes didn’t do his homework on that. The law banned him from his original launch site in Amboy, California. (He claims to have found a new, private site to launch from.)

Hughes has been building his rocket for about two years out of salvage parts, and it cost around $20,000 to make. But his launcher has been having a ton of issues recently, ones that would make his launch impossible. Though now he says he completely fixed it and it’s ready to go.

Hughes has said of his mission, “I don’t believe in science,” which sounds incredibly stupid for a man who is attempting to head into outer space. “I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But that’s not science; that’s just a formula.”

A company called Research Flat Earth is sponsoring the flight. And Hughes plans on doing exactly that.
