It seems just about everyone involved with the New York Giants at any point in the last few decades thinks Eli Manning should still be their starting quarterback—aside from whoever among the unholy triumvirate of head coach Ben McAdoo, general manager Jerry Reese, and owner John Mara ultimately made the decision to bench him .
Everyone from Giants legends of yore to Manning’s Super Bowl-winning teammates to former Giants who only spent a season or two playing with the man took to social media to trash the franchise for laying the team’s struggles at his feet while the offense and defense crumbles around him.
I am very emotional about this Eli SHIT.. The guy who gave you EVERYTHING for better or worse NEVER missing a game and THIS how it ends?? Not #10! He deserves better, He gave is all when BETTER wasn’t there for him.. and this is how it ends?? I hurt for him

I’m honestly at a lost for words. As a person that has seen Eli the QB but also Eli the Man, I’m truly pissed about what has taking place today. This decision is one of the STUPIDEST I’ve seen in my time being asap with pro sports #noloyalty #14years #bullshit

Hours later and just more questions than answers. More anger really. Sounds like McAdoo & Reese trying to save their ass. You had time to fix things, It’s called the Off-Season!! NOW YOU WANT TO EVALUATE!?

Eli deserves much better than that. Much better. Class person, class player. That’s absurd

I will say this without saying too much. Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong. One guy should not be demoted because of a TEAMS effort and lack production. If Eli gets demoted then the entire team should be demoted. All of his weapons are non existing and still the guys shows up every week and gives his all. That has to stand for something. There are ways to go about things and this is not the right way to go about this. Give him a fair evaluation under fair circumstances. I understand that this is a WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY LEAGUE… I posted this picture for one reason and one reason only. YOU NEED THE ONES WITH YOU THAT WILL RIDE FOR YOU!!!! ✌🏾💯

Even former Giants running back Tiki Barber, who’s had a famously rocky relationship with his former quarterback, said the team “scapegoated” Manning, adding, “It’s disappointing.”
“This is so much bigger than Eli Manning,” said Kurt Warner, who gave way to Manning when the quarterback started his run of 210 consecutive starts at the position, the second-longest mark ever. “This is about an entire organization that has gone sideways, and if you got one guy that represents what this organization has been about and the character and the success of this organization it’s that guy who has been under center in Eli Manning. … To me, shame on the Giants.”
Former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who won two rings with Manning, also weighed in:
Tom Coughlin on @1010XL asked about Eli Manning: “Surprised is not the word. My sentiments are totally with Eli Manning. … He’s a class act, a two-time Super Bowl champ, one of the finest, most humble men in that locker room. … I was very upset about when I heard that.”

Coughlin knows the feeling.
