After a business deal took a left turn into the absurd, a horse is suing Ray Lewis, an NFL legend, for not providing payment on a sponsorship deal. Yes. People, this is an actual lawsuit that is being filed in a court of law. A judge will be presiding over this case. Lawyers are involved.

According to TMZ, Lewis’ bourbon brand, Ray’s Reserve, had a sponsorship deal with 2014 Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome. Ray’s Reserve struck a deal that involved paying $25,000 in cash and $25,000 worth of bourbon to California Chrome’s jockey in exchange for the jockey’s wearing Ray’s Reserve pants at the 2017 Pegasus World Cup Invitational.

Well, apparently the jockey held up his end of the bargain, and Lewis did not hold up his. After the Pegasus World Cup Invitational, the money and the bourbon were apparently not handed over. Which is exactly why California Chrome’s owner is suing Ray Lewis.

Interestingly enough, Ray Lewis’ attorney claims that Lewis is not the owner of the bourbon company, but rather his likeness was licensed to the company. But if you look at their website, it specifically names Lewis as the owner.

Lewis’ lawyer stated, “There’s no justification for Ray to be named personally in the lawsuit,” since he is not the actual owner.

I cannot wait to see how the rest of this story plays out.
