Earlier this week, paid sports talker and fake New York Yankees fan Stephen A. Smith proclaimed that his most trusted whisperers say 2016 free agent Kevin Durant would prefer the Los Angeles Lakers if he were to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder.
"Regardless of how senseless it may (sound)," Smith said ESPN's First Take. "In one breath I’m hearing that if Kevin Durant doesn’t stay in Oklahoma City, L.A. is his primary objective and landing spot as opposed to South Beach or even his home of Washington, D.C."
Which is probably true, except for that part that's all of it.
The superstar was asked about Smith's comments after the Thunder's Friday practice. "I don't talk to Stephen A. Smith at all," he said. "Nobody in my family, my friends, they don't talk to Stephen A Smith. So he's lying."
Durant cemented his claim when he was asked how he'd address rumors that will in all likelihood swirl this season, regardless of factual basis: "If you ask me a question, I'll talk about them. But like I said before, I have people who I talk to about everything and I know for a fact they didn't talk to him, so he's making up stories."
As protectors of truth, the Internet was rightly quick to swoop in.
