Matt Harvey apologized to his New York Mets teammates, the organization, and the fans on Tuesday after the team suspended him for partying and golfing his way through a weekend before informing the team too late that he'd miss a game due to a migraine.
The waterworks apparently came out for his closed-door apology to teammates, some of whom had besmirched him earlier in the week.
“He was on the verge of tears,” said one spectator.
“I put myself in a bad place to be ready for showing up to a ballgame,” Harvey later told reporters. “That is my responsibility. I take full blame for that and I’ve apologized to my teammates, I’ve apologized to the coaches, and I’m doing everything in my power so that never happens again.”
If you believe Page Six, Harvey's weekend escapade was a way to blow off the jealousy of seeing supermodel Adriana Lima get back together with her ex, New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman, at the Met Gala:
A depressed Harvey, who was in Atlanta on the night of the Met Gala, had to take his turn pitching in the Mets rotation a few hours after seeing his gal pal out on the town without him. He wound up getting hammered by the Braves, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings.
Lima “really messed with Matt Harvey’s head,” baseball sources said.
Harvey and Lima had been spotted kissing in Miami in March. On Saturday night, Harvey was at Manhattan's 1 Oak, where Lima and Edelman had been photographed together at the Met Gala after party. The supermodel then unfollowed Harvey on Instagram.

“Everybody deserves a second chance,” said manager Terry Collins.
After the clubhouse meeting, the Mets pasted the San Francisco Giants, 6-1.
