Stephen A. Smith: If LeBron Wins Cleveland a Championship He Could Return to Miami

Could LeBron James take his talents to South Beach, again?

Despite a speed bump in Game 3 against the Toronto Raptors, the Cleveland Cavaliers look to be on the expressway to another NBA Finals appearance. And with Cleveland’s rested lineup likely facing a beat-up Golden State Warriors or Oklahoma City Thunder squad, 2016 looks to be Bron Bron’s best chance of delivering a championship to his home city.

But what if it actually happens? Then what? Do the Cavs continue to build around their big three and try to repeat? Or does LeBron cross off his bucket list and look to play elsewhere?

That’s a possibility Stephen A. Smith raised on Monday’s edition of First Take.

“LeBron James promised the city of Cleveland, ‘I’m coming back to bring you that elusive title that has escaped this city since 1964.’ He never said anything about staying once he does accomplish that.

I’m in Miami last week. I’m in Miami a few months ago. Skip Bayless, I’m hearing about a return to Miami if this man wins. He ain’t going nowhere if he loses. But, if he wins, his options are open. LA, but especially Miami, a return to South Beach.”

LeBron has always said he wants to bring “a championship” to Cleveland, not multiple championships like he did in Miami (back during his delusional phase). But that’s not enough to say he’ll be one-and-done if he wins it all with the Cavs. Not to mention, Stephen A. “hearing” rumblings in Miami about a LeBron return isn’t enough to say he’s going to leave Ohio.

I’ve heard rumblings around LA that Kevin Durant could come to town. Does that mean it’s going to happen? No, that would be career suicide (another rumor Stephen A. started).

Perhaps we’ll all be proved wrong this offseason if LeBron wins it all. Maybe he misses D-Wade and wants to have Goran Dragic passing him the ball. But James has a pretty great gig in Cleveland that would be stupid to leave in my opinion (and I haven’t even mentioned the damage it would do to his reputation).
