If Mario of “Super Mario Bros.” fame were to become an athlete, one might expect he’d make a great basketball player. Sure he’s not blessed with great size, but the guy’s got hops, especially if he gets his hands on a cape, and a dope spin move to boot.
But Mario has become an athlete, and he’s not a basketball player: He’s an American curler competing at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, under the alias Matt Hamilton.
That, or, aided by the team’s red uniforms, Hamilton just looks a lot like the video game star.

Hamilton and his sister Rebecca Hamilton won the first over mixed doubles curling match on Wednesday—it’s a new event this year—against a pair from Russia. But they haven’t fared well since, currently sitting at 2-4 in round-robin play, already eliminated with one match to go, against Finland.
