Underwater Hotels And Other Rad Places You Can Spend the Night

Underwater hotels: because a regular B&B is so boring

So you’ve done some traveling. But you’ve had enough of staying by the beach, in the heart of the city or near the woods. You want something more. Something different. And by that, we mean you want to be underwater. Believe it or not, spending a night or two below the ocean’s surface isn’t reserved for dive masters and submarine captains. Ocean stays are boutique these days. And if spending time with a bunch of tropical fish isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other exotic options. Like hanging off the side of a 1,200-foot cliff. Or sleeping under the open Arctic sky. So we’ve found the coolest underwater hotels (and not-so-underwater ones) in which you can stay the night. If you’ve got the cash, that is.

Manta Resort (Pemba Island, Zanzibar)

The price tag: $1700/night

The underwater room at the Manta Resort has three separate levels: the landing deck at sea level, the rooftop lounge area, and the bedroom under the surface.

It’s located on the reef in the middle of a conservation area, so the underwater inhabitants you’ll come across while you’re lying in your king sized bed are sure to be stunners.

Bonus: there’s no light pollution here, so if you happen to tire of the 360º view underwater, you can always check out the stars in all their starry glory up top.

No Man’s Fort (Solent, Portsmouth)

The price tag: $700/night

No Man’s Fort isn’t exactly underwater, but it is on the water. It requires a trip by boat just to get to, and with 22 separate rooms and suites available, there’s every opportunity to turn it into your own private floating party.

Their penthouse suite is actually a two-bedroom lighthouse with views of the sun deck — in case you want to be a creep, but privately.

Entre Cielos (Mendoza, Argentina)

If you’re a fan of Malbec wine, there’s no better place to enjoy it than at its source in Argentina. Entre Cielos is situated in Mendoza’s Lujan de Cuyo region on 20 acres of sweet, sweet wine country.

Its Vinyard Loft suite actually looks over the vineyard itself and has an outdoor jacuzzi tub. Total privacy and wine? Perfection.
