Americans Share Typical US Things They Missed While Abroad

When you go abroad, you go homesick. Noticing all the different things around you in a strange country, you remember how things are back home.

And if you’re an American, you’ll surely suffer the same shock culture others experience when they come to the USA.

One inspired Reddit user (u/TJBullz) asked one simple question on the /r/AskReddit: “Americans of Reddit, what is something you did not realize was typically American, until you went abroad?” The answers are perfect!

Tens of thousands of replies filled the thread in just a couple of days. The most voted reply was from u/33whitten:

Not many Americans knew it, but in the Netherlands, u/Totally_a_Banana saw ranch flavored Doritos called “Cool American” Flavor.

Apparently, the UK version of the ranch flavor is known as Cool original!

Apparently, the third popular topic in this thread was about garbage disposal sinks! When u/ShayBriar moved to the UK, his flatmates asked him about people sticking their hands in the kitchen sink.

They had no idea why the hands were ripped apart:

Another Reddit user that goes by the name dude_with_amnesia has an interesting experience to share with the rest of us. When he went to check in at a hostel, he walked into the lounge where others were sitting around.

He introduced himself to the room, and one person says: “you’re from the states, yeah?”
