What Famous Heroes and Villains Look Like Without Their Masks

Could you pick an actor from a lineup if you were asked who was behind the mask the character he played in a movie?

While most famous heroes and villains are seen in Marvel or DC comics, there are many other movies that use makeup, prosthesis, special effects and more to create impressive characters.

We’ve made a list with the most incredible masks ranging from Marvel’s Yondu who had around 6 layers of makeup to the beloved Chewbacca and even Game of Throne’s Night King.

Let’s see the actors and their masks and learn a few things about their looks and how many hours the crews worked to apply or create them.

Karen Gillan is a Scottish actress that accepted to shave her beautiful auburn hair so that she could become Thanos’ daughter. The crew applied her makeup in 4 hours and it took half an hour to remove it!

Talking about Thanos…

Stuntman Damion Poitier played Thanos in The Avenger in 2012 but then in the last 4 movies, it was Josh Brolin that took the role of the villain. Computer technology was used for this character so that it looked realistic.

Kaecilius — Mads Mikkelsen

Back in 2016, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen was having a great year, with the Hannibal Lecter TV series and starring in two great movies – Doctor Strange and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As Kaecilius in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, he had to stay in the makeup chair for hours to get that purple and gray mask effect.

Let’s head over to another villain, this time from the Guardians of the Galaxy!

Ronan the Accuser — Lee Pace

Lee Peace was Ronan from Guardians of the Galaxy and we must say with those purple contacts, the hood and all that make-up, he’s barely recognizable!
