Man Finds Chilling Detail In A Book, Forces Him To Call Author
Steve looks up from the book and slams it shut. He couldn’t believe it. Was it just a coincidence? He lets out a sigh. Hundreds of questions run through his mind as he gets up from a chair and he starts to pace around the room.
Then suddenly he stops. He takes a look back at the book, and a chill creeps up his spine. He knew exactly what to do.
Self-Proclaimed Bookworm
For voracious reader Steve Brown, books are life. For as long as he could remember, Steve loved nothing more than delving into a book, letting his imagination run free.
He even got a job in his local bookshop, which unfortunately saw him spend most of the day ringing up orders and re-shelving books moved by mischievous kids.
But then, one day, Steve opened a new shipment–a shipment that would change his life forever.
Something Strange
On a cold morning in 1985, Steve grabbed a copy of Thinner by Richard Bachman and tore through the chapters. His fingers trembled as he turned each page. The book concerned a sleazy lawyer who is cursed to lose a staggering amount of weight each day.
But as Steve delved further into the world of Richard Bachman, he noticed something strange.
An Imitator Or The Real Thing?
It seemed like Richard Bachman, and the latest addition to his bibliography was a ripoff of the leading horror writer of the past decade, Stephen King.
For Steve he was no more than two pages into it when he thought to himself, “this is either Stephen King or the worlds worst imitator!” However Richard’s personality seemed different to King’s, and in contrast to the colorful and descriptive Maine-based author, the Thinner author was older and more reclusive.
Steve heard some pretty strange rumors about his past too.
An Ambiguous Author
Supposedly, Richard worked as a chicken farmer for the majority of his life before he ever put pen to paper. According to sources, he was also severely disfigured, however, despite this his author photo looked pretty normal.
Curled up on a sofa with Richard’s book tightly grasped in his hand, Steve felt a sense of anxiety creep upon him as he compared Richards’s book to Stephens’s book. The similarities ran far too deep! And so, one day, as the rain poured outside and Steve was tucked up inside in the warm, he vowed he would get to the bottom of the matter.
