Health Inspectors Reveal The Worst Condition They’ve Ever Seen A Restaurant

Health inspectors have one of the most important jobs in the world as they are required to ensure that restaurants and food vendors adhere to strict sanitation rules. But their job isn’t always easy.

From hospital food and bodegas to fine dining restaurants, we’ve heard stories of places having to occasionally shut down for “safety reasons,” but never anything like what these people have experienced.

Read some of the scariest horror stories from the people who have seen it first hand. Their tales will change the way you look at dining forever.

Don’t Believe Me?

I once saw a rat-infested kitchen…in a hospital. When I told them, they asked me to prove my “suspicions.” I pointed out the foodstuffs chew-up circular holes, then the trail of droppings, then tiny footprints coming and going from a small hole in the floor, but none of that seemed convinced.

It was only when I showed them the three dead rats under their equipment; they began to believe me.

A Theory on Dilution

I worked as an inspector for storage tanks for dairies and factories and one day I had to check out a main milk storage tank. When I arrived, it had just been cleaned and was about to be filled with milk.

The first thing I noticed was that the tank still had bleach inside when they began adding milk. I later learned that the floor manager couldn’t be bothered to remove it. He theorized that the milk would dilute the bleach.

He was fired immediately.

Slippery Fingers

While doing a food safety inspection at a large slaughterhouse, I walked around the corner to find one of the butchers dropping and picking up the same carved ham 3 times.

Frustrated that he could not grip it with his hands, he gets on all fours and picks it up with his teeth. He proceeds to dumps it back into a tub with 600kg of product before sending it off for processing.

He was fired and the entire tub was discarded.

Hairy Fish n Chips

After getting several complaints of hair in the food from a fish n chips shop, I was sent to inspect it. I go there unannounced and find the owner wearing the wrong clothing and no shoes.

He was extremely hairy, almost like a werewolf, so I thought that it was the source of the hair. After tactfully commenting on the inappropriate work clothes, I notice that the fryer needed to be drained and told him to do so on the spot.

When he does, we find a deep-fried cat. He says, “oh, that’s where my cat went”, then explains that there was a rodent problem. The hair was not from the owner, it was from his cat.
