From “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” to “Riverdale,” actor Cole Sprouse has more than proven his talent and staying power when it comes to landing leading roles for the small screen.

Showing a clear partiality for successful television series, Sprouse has not acted in a full-length feature film since the 1999 release of Adam Sandler’s Blockbuster comedy “Big Daddy.” Much to the delight of Sprouse’s fanbase however, the 25-year-old took to Twitter to announce the end of his film hiatus spanning nearly two decades.

The actor is shedding the brooding image of Bughead, his “Riverdale” character to foray into the world of tender-hearted romance dramas. Titled “Five Feet Apart,” the film is directed by by “Jane the Virgin “star Justin Baldoni and penned by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis. With some serious “The Fault in Our Stars” vibes, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that film is “uplifting and about the people who help make every moment count as well as the transcendent power of love.” Centered around the star-crossed love story of two young adults fighting to explore romance in the face of mortality, Sprouse fans were all-to-eager to celebrate their icon landing such an emotive role.

“you guys know cole sprouse? cody from the suite life? that dude from big daddy who can wipe his own ass? yep! he’s been booked for a new lead role, five feet apart. im so proud of him can u see me crying,” wrote one fan, overjoyed by Sprouse’s transition from television to film.

“Five Feet Apart” is set to begin filming in the spring of 2018.
