If you missed the game-changing first episode of Kim Kardashian and Diana Madison’s new reality beauty competition “Glam Masters,” don’t worry; we’ve got you covered with the inside scoop you’ll need to live your most beautiful life.
Hosted by “Orange Is the New Black” breakout star Laverne Cox, the cutthroat new series pits beauty bloggers against one another in a series of nail-biting challenges judged by Kardashian’s personal makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, YouTube makeup guru Kandee Johnson and Marie Claire senior fashion editor and co-founder of Milk Makeup Zanna Roberts Rassi.
Setting the new standard for glam squad competitions everywhere, Madison dished on how she spotted the growing presence of social media in the beauty world and brought that vision to life alongside her longtime friend-turned-business parter Kim Kardashian.

“I work with so many makeup artists for my beauty tutorial show ‘Style Lab’ and makeup talk show ‘The Lowdown,'” said Madison before explaining the inspiration behind the coveted grand prize–a spot in Kim K’s glam squad and the opportunity to create a limited collection for KKW beauty. “They would all come in to do my makeup and say the same thing: Their goal is to be discovered by Kim Kardashian on Instagram. And they would tell me all the lengths they were going to: all these crazy makeup posts. One guy would literally wear a Kim Kardashian wig and make his face look like her, praying that she would discover him. I was like, “Oh my God. All these people are having a secret kind of competition on Instagram to be discovered by Kim.'”

In the much-anticipated series premiere, contestants Robin, Argenis, Taylor and Solange were first tasked with creating their own version of the “metallic drip” look that has taken social media by storm.
While Argenis absolutely slayed with his smoked-out warrior-meets-theatrical vampire look, the other three contestants struggled to achieve the consistency desired for their tantalizing drips. While the detail of Taylor’s brow brush strokes and Solange’s gorgeous rose gold drip carried them through to the next round, Robin’s pink pigment mask fell short in the eyes of the judges.
With Cox pointing out that the little details matter in such a high-stakes glam battle, the transfer of Robin’s pigment to the top of her lashes ultimately sealed her fate and she was soon “melted out of the competition.” (FYI–according to Dedivanovic, working on lashes last will prevent that from happening.)
Next, Solange, Taylor, and Argenis were ordered to “glamp it up” by amping up the glam with an avant-garde look that would serve to embody one of the seven deadly sins that the artist most identifies with. With just one hour to create a look of biblical proportions, the three artists raced to dig deep and turn their pain into beauty.
While Taylor’s blurred image of lust and Argenis’ “Jackson Pollock-meets-Edvard Munch-meets-classic McQueen” interpretation of pride earned the judges favor, Solange’s green-with-envy creation came out more sickly than artistic.
With just Taylor and Argenis left, the judges ramped up the difficulty for the next “living doll” challenge. With Taylor absolutely slaying the richness of the “doll’s” eyes (which were painted on the eyelids of the model, btw) and Argenis bringing his A-game by creating a flawless, porcelain complexion, the judges struggles to decide who would advance to the next round.
Ultimately, Argenis’ foundation work was enough for the beauty influencer to “live one step closer to becoming a glam master” as he triumphed over Taylor for spot in the semi-finals.
“I’m pretty sad to be going home but I am proud of myself because I could have given up when things were really really bad…I’m going home and taking this experience and carrying it with me forever,” said Taylor, upset at missing her chance to rub shoulders with the ultimate beauty trendsetter–Kim Kardashian.
