Just like the rest of his One Direction bandmates, Liam Payne is now unlucky in love. After months of dodging rumors that he and former Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole were boarding a train to Splitsville, Payne took to Twitter to drop an official breakup confirmation.

Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole broke up

“Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make,” wrote the “Strip That Down” singer. “We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.”

Surprisingly, Payne’s fans quickly responded to the devastating news by expressing their disbelief that their icon and his longtime GF had called it quits.

Really? Payne stans honestly thought that an international pop star with millions of dollars in the bank who constantly sings about hooking up with hot chicks would settle down at age 21 with one woman for the rest of his life? Payne, now 24, has been nothing but candid about the ups and downs he shared with Cole and the “tenseness” that permeated their relationship.

With such a difference in both their ages (Cole is nearly 10 years Payne’s senior) and celebrity profiles, there is absolutely no way that the two Brits were riding off into the sunset together. Regardless of the fact that they share a son together in 1-year-old Bear, Payne has the resources and means to walk away from his tiny family.

As a pop star enjoying the beginning stages of his solo career, there’s no WAY that Payne would have saddled himself to Cole for the duration of his tenure in the music industry.

With Cole quickly becoming old news and Payne growing into his own as an artist, it was simply a matter of time before the boy band member moved on to bigger and better things. Payne can still be a passable father without being tied down, and TBH, I’m surprised that he remained with Cole for as long as he did.
