“Green Light” isn’t just Lorde’s latest hit single, it’s also the latest therapy the New Zealand-born singer-songwriter has tried in order to treat her chronic acne.

In her most recent Instagram story, the two-time Grammy Award-winner kept it real by opening up to fans about her longtime struggle with recurring pimples that seriously mess up her red carpet-ready glam. Never one to hide behind a photo filter while enforcing impossible beauty standards, Lorde has a history of keeping it 100 with her fans while reminding the millions of teens that follower her on social media not to believe everything they see in the press.

“i find this curious – two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real,” wrote Lorde in a post dating back to 2014. “remember flaws are ok :-)”

In her most recent Instagram story, the “Royals” hitmaker clapped back at her passive-aggressive critics who claim to know how to cure her ever-present pesky pimples.

“For real though, acne sucks,” she said while sitting for a light treatment designed to reduce redness and breakouts. “You know what also sucks? When you’ve had acne for years and years and years, done all the drugs, tried all the things, and people are still like, ‘You know what worked for me, is moisturizing!’”

“The worst one, of course, is when people think you’re just dirty,” she continued. “It’s like, ‘Do you wash your face?’ It’s like, ‘Yes, I wash my face, I’m just genetically cursed!”

“For everyone out there who’s got bad skin — and actual bad skin, not just the kind of bad skin you can just use a fancy cream for for a few days and it will get better — I feel your pain,” she added. “We’ll get there; we will. I promise.”
