So Much Has Changed For the Cast of Harry Potter

So Much Has Changed For the Cast of Harry Potter March 11, 2021Leave a comment

As a worldwide phenomenon (the box office returns of the entire franchise is 7.7 billion), the Harry Potter series catapulted its stars to international fame, especially Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the titular wizard. As said in the 'Sorcerer's Stone,' there won't be a child who won't know his name, and this is right, almost everyone, including adults, know Radcliffe and his co-stars. Now, it's been a decade since the last film of the franchise premiered, and the cast went on to different stages of their career. How about we dive into the Pensieve and see what they were and what they are up to now?

Evanna Lynch

Warner Bros. / Instagram/Evanna Lynch

We're starting a little kooky right off the bat. Introduced in the fifth film of the franchise, Luna Lovegood was played by Evanna Lynch who perfectly captured the odd but sensible qualities of the wide-eyed young witch. Lynch was a big Harry Potter fan (and she still is) when she auditioned and was chosen for the role of Luna. But before that, she's already exchanging letters with J.K. Rowling herself. How cool is that? Lynch was sending Rowling fan mails which the author is responding to. Today, Evanna attributes her triumph from eating disorders and being cast in the franchise to Rowling's help. She still acts, her most recent lead role is in the movie 'My Name Is Emily'.

Harry Melling

Warner Bros. / Netflix

Remember Harry's squawky cousin Dudley? Yes, he's played by a guy who's also named Harry. Before being cast in Harry Potter, Harry Melling used to perform in stage productions. Today, he is known by many as Harry's nasty relative, but many were surprised when they realize that he's the actor in some recent films! You might not recognize him quickly but Melling has appeared in Netflix productions such as 'The Devil All The Time', 'The Old Guard', and 'The Queen's Gambit' in which he all played villainous roles akin to his character as a child. Well, they say the greatest actors are the opposite of who they've played so we trust Melling is as nice and decent as The Boy Who Lived.

Alan Rickman

Warner Bros. | Entertainment One Films

Who will forget Professor Snape? The prowling bat-like teacher is a constant objection to Harry Potter and his friends, until the very end. Snape was played by acclaimed British actor Alan Rickman who appeared in several remarkable roles before and after landing the role of Snape. He is also known as Hans Gruber in 'Die Hard', as the Sheriff of Nottingham in 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves', and as Judge Turpin in 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street'. Sadly, Rickman passed away due to pancreatic cancer in 2016, five years since the premiere of the final Harry Potter film. His final role is Absolem in 'Alice Through the Looking Glass'.

Maggie Smith

Warner Bros. | ITV

Maggie Smith played the no-holds-barred professor Minerva McGonagall who should be credited for making Hogwarts stable. Appearing in 7 films out of 8, Smith ardently exhibited the prowess of McGonagall and delivered some of the most iconic lines in the franchise. Her character is one of the few who stood up against Dolores Umbridge and made quite a mark due to her performance. Today, Smith continues to show off her badass acting skills, most recently as the Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley in 'Downton Abbey'. Did you know that Smith had been diagnosed with two illnesses in her lifetime, one is Graves' disease and the other is breast cancer, both of which she survived. She is, indeed, as tough as nails her Harry Potter character.

Robbie Coltrane

Warner Bros. / Flickr/clogdancer/CC 2.0

The gigantic but lovable Hagrid was played by Robbie Coltrane, one of England's finest actors. Before landing the role of the gentle giant, Coltrane appeared in movies such as 'Flash Gordon', 'GoldenEye', and 'From Hell.' Coltrane was Rowling's first choice for the role of Hagrid, and her dream came true as Coltrane stayed true to the series from start to finish. Currently, Coltrane still graces small and big British screens. He recently appeared in the movie 'Effie Gray' and the miniseries 'National Treasure'.

Devon Murray

Warner Bros. / Devon Murray/Instagram

If something is exploding in the Harry Potter movies, it's probably Seamus Finnigan's fault. Devon Murray who played the role was born in Ireland made his debut in a television ad for Costco. His next role was in the film 'This Is My Father' before breaking through with 'Angela's Ashes'. But, of course, his biggest role to date was in Harry Potter where he played the mischievous Gryffindor student. Murray hasn't acted much since the last Harry Potter film. He is now married to make-up artist Shannon McCaffrey Quinn and they had their first child, Cooper, in January 2021. We hope he's not trying to blow up things, especially now that he has a child!

Bonnie Wright

Warner Bros. | Bonnie Wright/Instagram

The youngest and only girl of the Weasleys was played by Bonnie Wright. Before her casting in the mega-franchise, Wright has no acting experience but quickly gained the attention of the producers due to her charm and natural red locks. She was cast on a cameo role in the first film but her participation in the franchise expanded starting with 'Chamber of Secrets'. After her long-term role as Ginny Weasley, Bonnie moved on to independent productions. She starred in films such as 'Before I Sleep' and 'After the Dark' and made her directorial debut in the film 'Separate We Come, Separate We Go'. Wright can be seen next in the film 'Those Who Wander'. Aside from her film projects, Wright is also known for her philanthropic work, she is an ambassador for Greenpeace and Lumos.

Julie Walters

Warner Bros. / Flickr;Christopher William Adach;CC 2.0

Veteran actress Julie Walters is known to Potterheads as the nurturing hen of the Weasleys and Harry Potter himself. But before the magical franchise, Walters is already quite an established name in the entertainment industry. The year before she appeared in 'Sorceror's Stone', Walters won a Laurence Olivier Award for her role in the play 'All My Sons', and was nominated for an Oscar for the film 'Billy Elliot'. You'd be surprised to see that Walters sports grey hair when out of her Weasley role. She still performs, appearing in recent films such as 'Paddington 2', 'Mary Poppins Returns', and 'The Secret Garden'.

David Bradley

Warner Bros. | HBO

Don't let Filch catch you wandering the halls at night or he'll reprimand you! David Bradley who's known as the cranky caretaker Argus Filch was already an established performer before his appearance in the film series. In 1991, he won a Laurence Olivier Award for his role as the Fool in the Shakespeare tragedy 'King Lear'. Aside from Filch, Bradley is also recognized by many for his role as the treacherous Walder Frey in 'Game of Thrones.' He continues to give fantastic performances today and his newest acting effort will be seen in the upcoming 'Pinocchio' film.

Alfred Enoch

Warner Bros. / ABC

Alfred Enoch played the mild-mannered Dean Thomas in the wicked franchise. Sadly, most of Dean Thomas's scenes in the books didn't make it to the film adaptation and he was reduced to a character without lines or in the background. Still, Thomas (and Enoch) is a vital part of the franchise and he appeared in all but one film of the franchise. While Harry Potter provided a springboard for Enoch, it's the show 'How to Get Away with Murder' that put him in the spotlight. Playing law student Wes Gibbins in the show helped Enoch display his acting chops. When the show ended, Enoch was next seen in the movie 'Tigers'.

James Phelps and Oliver Phelps

Warner Bros.; Wikimedia Commons / Prayitno / CC 2.5

The budding twins of Hogwarts were brought to life by the Phelps twins. Even without any background in acting, the Phelps skipped school and auditioned for the role. After about six meetings with the producers, the twins finally got the roles of the trouble-making Weasleys. After their stint in Harry Potter, the twins went on to star in other projects, still as a duo. They are very active in Harry Potter fan conventions and other events. They will next appear, again as acting partners, in the upcoming film 'Last Night in Soho'.

Josh Herdman

Warner Bros | Instagram / Josh Herdman

The Malfoy trio wouldn't be complete without Josh Herdman who played Gregory Goyle. The first film in the 'Harry Potter' series was Herdman's initial acting credit, after trying his hand on the industry since the age of 7. He played the role in all eight films. Now, Herdman is still on the craft of acting. He was last seen in the film 'Robin Hood' in which he played Righteous and as Stan in the show 'Alex Rider'. Herdman is also a mixed martial artist.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin

Warner Bros. / Instagram / hero_ft

We're going on a Voldemort memory ride starting with this one. Hero Fiennes Tiffin showed his intense acting chops as a child by playing young Voldemort stuck in an orphanage in the 'Half-Blood Prince'. Did you know Voldemort's main actor, Ralph Fiennes, is his uncle? While many claimed that his casting in the franchise is based on his relations, director David Yates said it's all due to his ability to go to dark places as an actor. Tiffin laid low after his part in Harry Potter and only appeared again in the limelight after being cast as the male lead in the film 'After'. He is set to reprise his role for two more films of the romance drama.

Frank Dillane

Warner Bros. | AMC

Next to Tiffin, Dillane took the role of Tom Riddle in his teens in 'Half-Blood Prince'. It was his first role but he provided such a magnetic performance that made him one of the most memorable actors of the franchise. His next role was James in 'Papadopoulos & Sons' where he acted alongside his father, Stephen Dillane. Now, Frank is still a very hardworking actor. Following his debut in Harry Potter, Dillane appeared in 'Sense8', 'In the Heart of the Sea', and 'Fear the Walking Dead'.

Christian Coulson

Warner Bros. / Amazon Prime

Tom Riddle first made his appearance in his teens via 'Chamber of Secrets' where he was played by Christian Coulson. Quite unforgettable for his charm, many were adamant to have Coulson back as Tom Riddle in the 'Half-Blood Prince', but it ultimately didn't happen, marking the second film as Coulson's only appearance in the film series. Outside Harry Potter, Coulson is an established actor. He appeared in 'The Hours', 'Nashville', and most recently, 'High Fidelity'. He had managed to preserve his boy-next-door looks as many had pointed out.

Ralph Fiennes

Warner Bros. | Netflix

Of course, the most recognizable as Lord Voldemort is the one played by prolific British actor Ralph Fiennes. Joining the series in the fourth film of the franchise, Fiennes displayed a gloomy authority to his portrayal as The Dark Lord. He played the role of the insidious wizard until 'Deathly Hallows Part 2'. When not on his bald cap or his nose being removed in post-production, Fiennes is a well-known thespian with a wide range of roles. Perhaps one of his best-known characters is Amon Goeth in 'Schindler's List'. He will be next seen as M in 'No Time to Die', providing another remarkable performance in his craft.

Warwick Davis

Warner Bros. | HBO

Before being known as Charms professor Fillius Flitwick and as the wicked goblin Griphook, Warwick Davis first made an impression as the titular character in 'Willow' and as the Leprechaun in the 'Leprechaun' film series. But it was Harry Potter that made younger audiences know and love the actor. As a versatile performer, Davis had played numerous roles. He was also an Ewok in 'Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi' and returned to the franchise through the new trilogy, playing different characters. Davis was most recently seen in 'Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil' where he played scientist Lickspittle.

Jamie Waylett

Warner Bros. / Jamie Waylett/Instagram

Crabbe and Goyle won't be Crabbe and Goyle without Jamie Waylett who played Vincent Crabbe since the beginning of the series. Harry Potter is Waylett's first and only role to date, and before providing us some laughs and rage as the character, Waylett was initially considered for the role of Dudley Dursley. In 2011, Waylett made headlines after participating in the England riots. He was sentenced to two years in prison, costing him an appearance in the two final Harry Potter films. And it was probably the turning point for him to leave his career in acting.

Chris Rankin

Warner Bros. / Instagram / Chris Rankin

The bad-tempered Percy Weasley was played by Chris Rankin who went on-and-off with his appearance in the film series. After the 'Prisoner of Azkaban', Rankin's participation was reduced and he only re-appeared several years later in the penultimate and last films. Now, when not acting, Rankin is working as a television crew. He was an assistant production manager in television shows such as 'Atlantis', 'A Discovery of Witches', and 'Downton Abbey'. After all these years, Rankin is still recognizable with his red hair and serious demeanor.

Luke Youngblood

Warner Bros. / Instagram / Luke Youngblood

Who could forget Lee Jordan, Hogwarts' resident Quidditch announcer made memorable by his sparkling personality? While absent for the rest of the films after 'Chamber of Secrets', Luke Youngblood's performance as Lee Jordan elevated the magic of the Quidditch scenes of the first two films. It seemed like it's in Youngblood's blood to be the life of the party. After Harry Potter, he successfully booked recurring roles in shows such as Galavant and Community, the latter in which he played Magnitude, a zestful student similar to his role as Lee Jordan.

Sean Biggerstaff

Warner Bros. | Left Turn Films

The team captain of Gryffindor's Quidditch Team and Hogwarts heartthrob was played by Sean Biggerstaff. Before landing the role, Biggerstaff was in the movie 'The Winter Guest', and after Harry Potter, he had a lead role in the film 'Cashback' before finally returning to the franchise with a cameo role in 'Deathly Hallows Part 2'. Biggerstaff is still an active actor but mostly concentrates his time on theatre work. In 2016, he played the lead role in the play 'Right Now' by playwright Catherine-Anne Toupin.

Katie Leung

Warner Bros. / Instagram / Katie Leung

Harry Potter's biggest crush was given life by British actress Katie Leung. When the casting call for her character was announced, thousands of actresses of Asian descent lined up for the role, but Leung ultimately won, despite believing that she has little chance to be even noticed. She would then play Cho Chang up to the final film of the franchise. When her tenure in Harry Potter finished, Leung focused on painting and photography. She's also part of several sensible productions such as the BBC miniseries 'One Child' and the play 'The World of Extreme Happiness'. In 2017, Leung appeared in the Jackie Chan-led 'The Foreigner'.

Fiona Shaw

Warner Bros. | BBC

Who would've thought that the hateable aunt of Harry was played by a renowned actress? Before making us angry with her performance as Petunia Dursley, Shaw had made a mark in the industry by playing several roles in theatre, film, and television and winning awards such as a BAFTA. Today, Shaw continues to grace television and silver screens for her astute portrayal of roles. She can be remembered for appearing in 'True Blood' and 'Killing Eve' for which she earned another BAFTA award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Michael Gambon

Warner Bros. | ITV

When Richard Harris sadly passed away in 2002, another actor had to take over the role of the powerful wizard Dumbledore, and that actor was Michael Gambon. The actor who holds a British order of chivalry had quite an amazing career before being better known as the Hogwarts Headmaster. He was in David Hare's 'Skylight' for which he attained a Tony Award nomination. Gambon also appeared in movies such as 'Gosford Park' and 'The Insider'. After his breathtaking performance in the Harry Potter films, Sir Michael Gambon would bestow another set of his fine work with films such as 'Hail, Caesar!', 'Paddington', and 'Judy'.

Ian Hart

Warner Bros. | E4

It was the shock of our childhood to discover that Lord Voldemort was hiding all this time inside Quirinus Quirrell's turban. Quirrell is played by Ian Hart, an English actor who is known for his work in the miniseries 'One Summer' and the biopic 'Michael Collins' before getting the role of the timid professor. Hart only appeared in the first Potter film but played many roles over the years, most notably as Dr. Kester Gill in 'My Mad Fat Diary', as Thomas Blanky in 'The Terror', and Father Beocca in 'The Last Kingdom'.

Toby Jones

Warner Bros. / Entertainment One

Toby Jones gave the voice of inspiration for the movements of Dobby the House Elf. Unless you're living under the rock, you would know that Dobby's death is one of the saddest things of the franchise, and it proved to be a true turning point not only to the story's themes but also to Harry's motivations to end the Wizarding War. It would've been as gut-wrenching if not for Jones' acting so it's not a debate that he did a great job! Jones is one of the industry's leading character actors. You might remember him as Dr. Arnim Zola in the 'Captain America' film series and as Percy Alleline in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'.

Shirley Henderson

Warner Bros. | Dashisha Global Film

Moaning Myrtle, the ghost who haunts the girls' lavatory in Hogwarts was played by Shirley Henderson. At the time of filming, Henderson was already 35, a far-cry to the character she's playing that was supposed to be 14. It didn't matter, though, as Henderson's youthful looks and talent in acting cemented her as one of the most iconic characters in the Potter series. When her work as Moaning Myrtle ended in 'Goblet of Fire', Henderson was next seen in 'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day', 'Anna Karenina', and 'Okja'. In 2018, Henderson got the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for the musical 'Girl from the North Country'.

Kenneth Branagh

Warner Bros.

Kenneth Branagh played the smarmy Gilderoy Lockhart who had an intense case of incompetence in the 'Chamber of Secrets'. But before he is known for the role, Branagh is already quite an accomplished artist. He directed and acted on several Shakespeare film adaptations such as Henry V for which he was nominated for Best Actor and Best Director. Now, Branagh is mostly better known as a director. He had directed 'Thor', 'Cinderella', 'Murder on the Orient Express', and its upcoming sequel 'Death on the Nile'.

Jason Isaacs

Warner Bros. | Vertical Entertainment

We all have heard of him and he delivered! For Lucius Malfoy, Harry Potter producers hired Jason Isaacs, who appeared in 'Dragonheart', 'Armageddon', and 'The Patriot' before his debut as the patriarch of the Malfoy family. In real life, Isaacs isn't a flowing blond but rather wears a clipped black hair. He had quite a filmography, appearing in many blockbusters and independent films such as 'Peter Pan', 'Fury', and 'A Cure for Wellness'. His most recent notable work is 'Star Trek: Discovery'.

Helena Bonham Carter

Warner Bros. | Netflix

The Harry Potter movies were never the same when Bellatrix Lestrange entered the picture. Helena Bonham Carter who played the untamed witch had built a noteworthy career before entering the magical world. You'll know her from films such as 'Fight Club', 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', and 'Corpse Bride'. Now Helena continues to be the queen of versatility. She recently took participation in major Netflix productions such as 'Enola Holmes' where she played Eudoria Holmes and 'The Crown' where she wowed audiences with her uncanny portrayal of Princess Margaret.

Mark Williams

Warner Bros / Wikimedia Commons / Alex Caut / CC 4.0

The head of the Weasley family was played by veteran actor Mark Williams. Before he found himself taking care of his little redheads, Williams was Horace in '101 Dalmatians' and made several guest appearances in the iconic BBC show 'Red Dwarf'. When Harry Potter ended, Williams appeared in 'Doctor Who', 'Early Man', and led the comedy show 'Father Brown' for BBC. Mark Williams is not naturally ginger but he had the aura of the clumsy but competent family man that is Arthur Weasley.

Gemma Jones

Warner Bros. | Paramount Pictures

Whenever the characters of Harry Potter get injured or sick, they all run to Madam Pomfrey, the matron of Hogwarts, who is played by veteran English actress Gemma Jones. With 60 years of a career in performing, Jones seemed to have played almost everything. Outside Harry Potter, she is well-known as Mrs. Dashwood in 'Sense and Sensibility' and as Bridget Jones's mother in the 'Bridget Jones' movies. Jones is currently one of the most respected actresses in the UK. Her most recent credit is 'Ammonite', 'Rocketman', and 'Bridget Jones's Baby' where she reprised her role as Bridget's stern mother.

David Thewlis

Warner Bros. | Netflix

For his role in the 1993 film 'Naked', David Thewlis was awarded the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor. A decade later, Thewlis would appear in 'Prisoner of Azkaban' as the kind Professor Remus Lupin who's moonlighting as a werewolf. He played the role until the franchise's final film. These days, you'd recognize Thewlis for his roles in 'Wonder Woman', 'Annomalisa', 'I'm Thinking of Endings', and 'Fargo' for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy. He'll be in James Cameron's upcoming 'Avatar' sequels.

Natalia Tena

Warner Bros. | Youtube

The easy-going Nymphadora Tonks was made better by Natalia Tena's portrayal starting in the 'Order of the Phoenix'. Tena made her debut in the film 'About a Boy' in 2002 which was followed by several theatre productions such as 'Gone to Earth'. She appeared in four Potter films, ending in 'Deathly Hallows Part 2'. After starring in one of the biggest movie franchises, Tena moved on to another big franchise which is Game of Thrones. She played the wildling Osha for 3 seasons. You probably saw her as her most recent character Xi'an in the Disney+ series 'The Mandalorian.' It looks like Tena keeps on getting cast in colossal projects, and we're all up for it.

Imelda Staunton

Warner Bros. | BBC

We're already fuming just by hearing the name of Dolores Umbridge. Imelda Staunton, a seasoned English actress, played the character we love to hate so well that it's hard to see her as a different person in her other works. Before Potter, she starred in the title role in the series 'Vera'. The fact that everyone hates Umbridge is a sole testament to Staunton's acting talent. She's too talented that she's still working hard as ever. You can spot her as one of the good fairies in the 'Maleficent' movies and as Queen Elizabeth in the future seasons of 'The Crown'.

Emma Thompson

Warner Bros. | Amazon Studios

The bumbling Divination professor was played by Emma Thompson, an actress with a high-caliber of projects under her belt. The leading British thespian is known for her work in films such as 'The Remains of the Day' and 'In the Name of the Father', which were both released in 1993 and gave her two Academy Award nominations in the same year. If not looking at the stars or reciting prophecies, Thompson is quite a prolific actress with shows and movie releases including her released every year. You can catch her in new movies such as 'Late Night', and 'Last Christmas'.

Timothy Spall

Warner Bros. | Firefly Films

It's a feat for Harry Potter to gather some of the best English actors and that included Timothy Spall who played the traitorous Peter Pettigrew. Before his role in the series that made him a literal rat, Spall was in the 1996 film 'Secrets and Lies' for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Award. During and after the Potter films, Spall showed that he can play more than a creepy wizard. He shined the most for his portrayal as J. M. W. Turner in Mr. Turner which earned him a Cannes Film Award for Best Actor. Many were shocked to see Spall looking slimmer than he was before. He dismissed health decline, even though he's in remission from leukemia, and said that he just making better eating choices.

Domnhall Gleeson

Warner Bros. | Pathé

Domhall worked alongside his father, Brendan Gleeson who played Mad-Eye Moody, in 'Deathly Hallows Part 2' but they didn't exchange any lines together. As he was a starting actor at the time he was cast in the franchise, Domhall only had small roles, most notably as Rodney in 'Never Let Me Go'. The Potter franchise was a boost of career for Domnhall. He would then play roles in 'True Grit', 'Ex Machina', and 'Dredd', but perhaps his most well-known movie is 'About Time' where he played a time-traveling simpleton. He joined the 'Star Wars' franchise in 2015 as General Hux.

Gary Oldman

Warner Bros. | Entertainment One

Harry's close relationship with Sirius Black felt effective because of Gary Oldman's gravitas. Not a surprise as Oldman was already an accomplished actor by the time he was cast in 'Prisoner of Azkaban'. If you're not aware, Oldman played Sid in the 1986 film 'Sid and Nancy' and Dracula in 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'. In 2017, Oldman won an Academy Award for his role as Winston Churchill in 'The Darkest Hour', decades after his magical career began. He also appeared in Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' trilogy and David Fincher's 'Mank'.

Hugh Mitchell

Warner Bros. | Supercon Conventions/Wikimedia Commons/CC. 2.0

Say cheese! The camera-obsessed Hogwarts student Colin Creevey was portrayed by Hugh Mitchell in 'Chamber of Secrets'. While the sophomore film is his only appearance, Mitchell's performance was iconic that he's preserved in our minds like a photograph. After Potter, Mitchell would nab roles in several film and TV productions. His credits include 'Nicholas Nickleby', 'The Da Vinci Code', and the most recent 'Wallander'. It looks like Mitchell shed off his smiley kid persona and is now radiates a feisty air, but we think he would still be smiling when taken a picture Colin Creevey style.

Arthur Bowen

Warner Bros. | Arthur Bowen/Instagram

Despite only appearing in the final scene of the entire franchise, Arthur Bowen made an impression for his role as Albus Severus Potter, partly because of his striking eyes, but mostly because of his sensitive portrayal as the second son of Harry and Ginny. His character's name is one of the most famous names in the series at it combines two of the greatest Hogwarts legends, but Bowen's name isn't quite ringing in the industry these days. 'Deathly Hallows Part 2' remains as Bowen's only acting credit.

Clémence Poésy

Warner Bros. | Box Productions

Now, we're onto the champions of the Triwizard Tournament, and we're starting with Fleur Delacour. The representative of the Beauxbatons was played by French actress Clémence Poésy, who had her first English-speaking role in 'Gunpowder, Treason & Plot' where she played Mary, Queen of Scots. For her portrayal, she was given the Golden FIPA Award for actress in a TV Series and Serial. Poésy would then reprise her role as Fleur for the last two Potter films. Poésy was last seen in the biopic 'Resistance' and the time-bending Nolan film 'Tenet'.

Stanislav Yanevski

Warner Bros. / Instagram/Stanislav Yanevski

With a badass entrance, who would forget Drumstrang's champion, Viktor Krum? Before he made audiences swoon, Stanislav Yanevski who played Krum had no experience in acting. It was only when casting director Fiona Weir spotted him and eventually gave him the role that Yanevski realized that he could work in the industry. He returned for a deleted cameo in 'Deathly Hallows Part 1'. Yanevski is still acting and is a little unrecognizable due to his larger frame. He appeared in the TV series 'Undercover' and will star next in the action film 'The Cloaking'.

Robert Pattinson

Warner Bros. | Netflix

For many, Robert Pattinson is the sparkling vampire from the Twilight series, but he's Cedric Diggory first! Before starring as the Hufflepuff champion and before becoming one of Hollywood's most sought-after stars, Pattinson's first role was in a TV movie called Sword of Xanten. Pattinson seemed to have nailed all his recent auditions as he was seen in many films in the last couple of years. Some of these are 'Good Time', 'The Lighthouse', 'The Devil All the Time', and 'Tenet'. His biggest role to date which is the Batman will be realized in 2022.

Tom Felton

Warner Bros. | Youtube

Harry Potter's archenemy, Draco Malfoy, was played by Tom Felton. Prior to landing the role of a lifetime, Felton's screen debut was in 'The Borrowers'. He would then play Louis T. Leonowens in 'Anna and the King' before donning Slytherin robes. Felton is one of the success stories of the Potter movies. After the final film, Felton appeared in 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', 'The Flash', and Netflix's 'A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting'.

Matthew Lewis

Warner Bros.

If we're talking about drastic transformations in the Harry Potter cast, Matthew Lewis takes the cake. Who started as the awkward Neville Longbottom is now a dashing man in his 30s. Of course, Lewis was a cute kid when he was cast in Harry Potter but to effectively play the role of Neville he was given a prosthetic and had to wear a fat suit. It was in the final film of the Potter franchise that Lewis showed his natural looks. 'Me Before You', 'Ripper Street', 'Terminal', and 'Baby Done' are some of the projects Lewis did after Harry Potter.

Emma Watson

Warner Bros. | Columbia Pictures

The eager but sometimes annoying Hermione Granger was played by none other than Emma Watson who was deemed perfect for the role due to his eloquence and looks that matched the character from the books. For her role in the franchise, Watson became one of the highest-paid young actors and it propelled her to worldwide fame. Watson had done a string of films after Potter, including 'The Perks of Being A Wallflower', 'Beauty and the Beast', and 'Little Women'. There were rumors that Watson is retiring from her career, but this was dismissed as she's reportedly busy getting projects and doing her philanthropic work.

Rupert Grint

Warner Bros. | Apple TV+

At age of eleven, Rupert Grint was cast Ron Weasley, Harry Potter's best friend, and Hogwarts' eventual hero. Before that, Grint was already starring in school plays. Due to being one of the best-known actors, Grint was cast in many films between the Harry Potter installments, one is 'Driving Lessons' where he again played Julie Walter's son. When the movie franchise ended, Grint opted to work on smaller productions. He starred in 'Cherrybomb', 'Into the White', and 'Wild Target'. Grint also tried his hand in producing with the TV show 'Snatch'. You can currently catch him in the Apple TV+ show 'Servant' where you can see his ever-glorious red hair.

Daniel Radcliffe

Warner Bros. | TBS

There's no denying that the actor for the titular role was the most affected by the franchise's success, but not always the positive kind. While Harry Potter is still a book, Daniel Radcliffe is already making films with the TV movie 'David Copperfield' and 'The Tailor of Panama'. After auditioning several times, Radcliffe got the role, and as the famous story, he received the call while he's on a bath. After the life-changing role, Radcliffe took roles that were often different from Harry Potter, and this technique proved his versatility and range. Unfortunately, Radcliffe faced substance problems while filming the series, but since then sobered up. He continues to take on game-changing roles, most notable are his characters in 'Horns' and 'Swiss Army Man'.
