Barbara Walters Is Retiring

After Moms were showered with gifts and appreciation yesterday, Moms woke up to some very sad Mom news.

Barbara Walters is retiring.

The 83-(damn, girl! you lookin’ good!)-year-old ABC News anchor has officially announced her plans to hang up her mic at the network.

“I am very happy with my decision,” she said, “ and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead.”

“I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain,” she added. “I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women—and, okay, some men, too—who will be taking my place.”

Savor every news report and comment on The View through 2013 because once the year is over, she’ll leave her posts for an exclusively behind-the-scenes role at the daytime talk show she created in ’97 as executive producer.

She joined ABC in 1976 and was a pioneer in the industry as the first female co-anchor of an evening news program.

Needless to say, it’s a well-deserved retirement.
