Hollywood has given us some incredible mysteries over the years. But, ironically, a lot of them didn’t happen on the big screen or on TV. Because a lot of them actually happened off-camera. Meaning in real life.

Scandals, disappearances, and suspicious deaths: Tinseltown has been the setting of a lot of crime. And plenty of those crimes, some decades-old, remain mysteries today. So here are some of Hollywood’s most shocking unsolved crimes.

Natalie Wood

On Nov. 29, 1981, Natalie, her husband, Robert Wagner, and actor Christopher Walken got on a yacht. Then she simply vanished.

A few hours later, her body was found in the water. The death was ruled a drowning, but some bruising on her body leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

Virginia Rappe

Comedic actor Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle allegedly murdered actress Virginia Rappe. Some say they were at a party at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco in 1921, where he reportedly forced a bottle inside of her, causing her bladder to rupture. He was never convicted, so who did what remains a mystery.

The Black Dahlia (Elizabeth Short)

Aspiring actress Elizabeth Short died of cerebral hemorrhaging caused by a gruesome murder. Her body was found in a Leimert Park neighborhood in LA on Jan. 15, 1947. Her corpse had been badly mutilated and severed at the waist. To this day, no one knows for sure who did it.

Marilyn Monroe

The most popular sex symbol of the 1950s died of an alleged overdose of barbiturate on Aug. 5, 1962. Examiners ruled out accidental overdose and classified it as a suicide.

Over the years, several conspiracy theories, which included murder, have popped up. But no evidence has been found to support those claims.
