Julianne Hough is all about bringing up her dark past this week.
Since her shocking interview published by Cosmopolitan magazine, the dancer-turned-actress is continuing her unadulterated public confessions regarding her childhood struggle with abuse.
Her newest proclamation arrives via an upcoming “ET” interview, where she continues to offer clues into her painful early years.
“I’ve been through certain things that have sucked the life out of me … and just the light about me was gone,” Julianne says. “I was just a dark person.”
She adds: “A lot of people got to know me through “Dancing with the Stars” and don’t really know about my past before that, which I don’t talk about much.”
Julianne gives the interview from the set of her new film Safe Haven, where she shares the screen with Josh Duhamel. Her role as Katie, a widower with a dark past, had many parallels with her real life stuggles.
“Being Katie, I relate a lot to her,” she says. “The fact that she had been in one situation that just sucked the life out of her, and it was a bad situation, and she needed to change and move on and kind of find her own again. And through that you find love and everything.”
As we previously reported, Julianne opened up about her unsavory past in a recent sitdown with Cosmo. Though she was mum on specific details of the incidents that unfolded as a child in London’s Italia Conti Academy of the Arts, she did admit that she endured both mental and physical abuse there.
“I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy facade because that was my job and my life,” she told Cosmo. “But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love.”
Julianne’s on-screen interview airs tonight on ET.
