Royal Christening Shocker: Pippa and Harry Not Named Godparents

Madison Vanderberg

Prince George is set to be christened today! It’s the first event since the royal wedding that any of us give a crap about! (No offense, Queen’s Jubilee).

Going against tradition, Duchess Kate and Prince William have only invited a few friends and family members to attend the christening, which is taking place today at the Chapel Royal at St. James’ Palace.

The guest list includes Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and his wife Camilia, Prince Harry, and all the Middletons including Kate’s siblings James and Pippa.

The most interesting thing about this royal baptism is that the baby will have seven godparents! However, that’s not unusual because Prince William has six godparents.

The baby’s godparents include Oliver Baker (their friend from college), Emilia Jardine-Paterson (she went to Marlborough College with Kate), Earl Grosvenor (the son of the Duke of Westminster), Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton (Kate and Will’s longtime assistant), Julia Samuel (a close friend of Princess Diana), Zara Tindall (William’s cousin), and William van Cutsem (Will’s childhood friend).

Many are shocked that Pippa and Prince Harry were NOT named as godparents. Choosing old friends rather than royals and other dignitaries is certainly breaking tradition, so is such a small intimate christening.

So now that their entire social circle has been named as godparents, little baby George will be christened with water from the River Jordan by the Most Rev Justin Welby while wearing the royal christening gown. Then afterwards, everyone will go back to a private tea in Clarence House and eat OLD WEDDING CAKE from Kate and Will’s wedding.
