Rumor Control: Is Henry Cavill Set for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey?’

Matt Dekneef

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s…Christian Grey?

The latest Superman installment, Man of Steel, has ushered in yet another heavyweight contender for the coveted role of Christian in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Henry Cavill is the latest male Adonis to rise to the top of the casting rumors surrounding the erotic series and given all the buzz surrounding his portrayal of Clark Kent, this is a casting choice many can actually see happening.

He’s already whipped his body into shape for his superhero role, and is still obscure, but perhaps familiar enough to believably seduce viewers.

But like all the other Matt Bomer/Alexander Skarsgard/Ian Somerhalder/Alex Pettyfer/everyone rumors, it’s still a work of fantasy.

“This is purely a fan based rumor and is not true,” Henry’s rep exclusively told Hollyscoop. “No one has approached Henry about this. He has not read a script for this part.”

It doesn’t mean Henry’s out of the picture—just that there’s no picture yet to leave him out of.

The incredibly successful books by E.L. James appeared to be doomed to languish in development hell, but the news yesterday that the project finally has a director attached (Sam Taylor-Johnson) shows it has more traction than ever.
