“Supernatural” has been going for a while now.

This is a show that hasn’t ever completely overtaken the world as a mainstream hit, but its dedicated cult fanbase has never lost interest over the past decade. Thirteen seasons in, the series is still as beloved as it was at the start.

The challenge with such a longrunning show is that it’s hard to not end up stuck in a creative rut when you’re essentially doing the same thing week in, week out. The formula for “Supernatural” has been mixed up every now and then, and supporting characters have come and gone, but it’s clearly not easy coming up with something unique for the Winchester brothers to do every single episode.

Enter next week’s show: a crossover with “Scooby-Doo”. Yes, the cartoon.

Yes, it looks amazing.

Reports from behind the scenes suggest that this is going to be one of the most unique episodes of “Supernatural” in the show’s history, as well as a big first for “Scooby-Doo”.

According to “Supernatural” creator Eric Kripke:

“I haven’t seen the live-action bookends yet, but I did get slipped all the animated stuff, which I have seen… and it’s amazing! It’s so awesome! As a kid who grew up on ‘Scooby-Doo’, it’s one of the moments in my career where I’m, like, genuinely starstruck. I cannot believe the show I created is crossing over with something as iconic as ‘Scooby-Doo’. I’ve been around a while now, but this one really blew me away. This was truly amazing.”

Apparently, while the show will adhere to classic “Scooby-Doo” conventions, this will most certainly be a “Supernatural” episode, with the added gore and slightly more grown-up themes that this entails.

The Scooby gang have been teaming up with other classic characters for years, having met everyone from Batman to the Harlem Globetrotters. It does seem like this event is a little different, though, which is great for oldschool fans of “Scooby-Doo” as well as hardcore lovers of “Supernatural”.

While we’ll have to wait a few more days before this episode debuts on television, this is certainly the kind of crossover that needs to happen more often.

If the writers behind “Supernatural” can keep on coming up with ideas like this, the show will be able to survive just fine for a long time to come. For fans of the series, this is only a good thing.

Ultimately, there’s a very good reason why the Winchesters have been saving the day for thirteen years and counting!
