Thor’s Roommate Darryl is Returning to the MCU, and He’s Bringing a Big Star With Him

Do you need a little bit of good news to make your day run a bit more smoothly? Are you a fan of the “Team Thor” sketches and the God of Thunder’s put-upon Australian roommate Darryl?

If so, there’s a special reason to eagerly await the release of the “Thor: Ragnarok” Blu-Ray.

Unfortunately, from the sounds of things, Thor himself won’t be returning – Chris Hemsworth is a busy man (busier than he wants to be), and without going too far into spoilers, it seems that he’s really in need of a place on Earth to hang out while he waits for the Avengers to send him a raven.

The good news is that in Thor’s place, another star of “Ragnarok” is going to turn up instead, and if anything, this sounds even better than getting a Hemsworth brother into one of these shorts.

In the third Darryl short, the character will find himself rooming with none other than Jeff Goldblum, the Grandmaster.

According to the official description of the upcoming short (edited to remove “Thor: Ragnarok” spoilers):

“The Grandmaster makes his way to Earth to start a new life. It’s been over a year since Thor left Australia and Darryl has been struggling to pay his rent. Now Darryl needs a new roommate to help make the monthly payments. Unfortunately for Darryl, the Grandmaster was the only one who answered Darryl’s “Roommate Needed” ad and with no viable options, the Grandmaster moves in.”

This is going to be incredible.

Taika Waititi is great at using the mockumentary movie formula to play with larger than life characters (hence the upcoming “What We Do in the Shadows” TV series), and letting Jeff Goldblum loose on a silly scenario like this is the perfect way to build on what’s already been done with the “Team Thor” shorts.

The only downside is that this will only be a tiny snippet of fun. We could do with an entire Darryl Marvel movie, or at the very least a Netflix series.

With everything else that Marvel’s building towards, this might be the last of these comedy shorts for a while, but here’s hoping that when things get less busy, we might get more of Taika Waititi’s marvelous superhero nonsense.

In the meantime, we all have the YouTube Blu-Ray release of “Team Darryl” to look forward to!

(But seriously, though, we’re all just going to watch this on YouTube, there’s no reason to actually buy a Blu-Ray in this day and age.)
